Or stop long enough (even if you are not a nature freak) to contemplate his “Frozen Lake and Cliffs†(1932/1934): the foreground water seems distinctly separate from the bordering snow, as if the fourth dimension could be accessed in the interstice between black mirage of water and white static snow. And that focus is just one smaller segment of the work, so you could study the piece for longer, finding many more nuances and subtleties than I will cover here. Since arriving in California, I have (obviously) grown older. It has been twenty-nine years since I visited those redwoods, for instance. But I have also grown more appreciative of trees, nature, and the world beyond our concrete and paint. For the most part, I have done so by way of Ansel Adams poster number one, two, three, and other spectacular photography that assists me in looking deeper and longer into the awe that is nature and art combined. Of course, Ansel Adams took plenty of pictures outside of Yosemite as well. Another one of my favorite Ansel Adams posters is a print of his Tetons and Snake river photograph. The Grand Tetons are one of the most striking mountain ranges in the country, and this image captures their beauty very well. While I’ve only been there once, every time I look at the Ansel Adams poster I am reminded of their imposing nature. Ansel Adams images have become quite a rage in the last few years, and I’ve seen a rise in popularity in Ansel Adams posters as well. So not only are they great images to have around a home, they’re also very trendy. The kinds of images portrayed in an Ansel Adams poster are completely classic as well; a black and white image of mountains, lakes, trees, beaches, or other natural scenes will never be out of style. And Andy Warhol pictures remind me of the kick-ass film, “I Shot Andy Warhol,†starring the brilliant understated (as always) and therefore stellar performance of Lili Taylor (as Valerie Jean Solaris), who then reminds me of the avant garde “Six Feet Under,†where she played Nate’s love interest and mother of his child for a while. To hell with six-degrees-of-Kevin-Bacon…though I love him and he is beautiful and talented in his own right. How about six-degrees-of-Andy-Warhol-pictures? (0)
